COVID-19 Information for school and group visits, tours and programs:
The general tour is a self-guided visit of the Michigan History Museum's permanent exhibits. Admission is $4 per student (ages 6-17); one teacher and paraprofessionals are free; one chaperon for every 10 students is free. Additional adults are welcomed to join at $8 per person. Plan approximately 90 minutes for your visit.
Reservations for general tours are made by calling Michigan Capitol Tour Services at 517-373-2353. Dates become available for making reservations one year in advance.
A knowledgeable volunteer docent will lead your class through Michigan history, from the end of the last ice age through the mid 20th century. Guided tours last approximately 90 minutes. Admission is $7 per student, with a minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 students per tour. One teacher and paraprofessionals are free; one chaperon fore every 10 students is free. Additional adults are welcomed to join at $8 per person.
Paid programs for adult groups are available for $9 per person.
Reservations for guided tours are made by calling the Michigan History Museum directly at 517-335-2581. Please be advised that all programs must be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
The Michigan History Museum can become your classroom for an entire week.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Learn517 program is on hiatus. Plans to hold limited programs in the 2021-2022 year are in development. More information will be available in late September 2021.
The Michigan History Museum has teamed up with Impression 5 Science Center, REACH Studio Art Center and Woldumar Nature Center to offer dynamic learning environments where homeschoolers can explore monthly themes through the disciplines of art, science, nature and history. Each partner organization takes a turn hosting a Learn517 program for students aged 6 to 11 on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 per student and $4 per adult.
