Library of Michigan
The Library of Michigan library staff certification program offers a recognized certificate of achievement based on education and experience, and it supports the statutory requirements for public libraries to qualify for State Aid to Public Libraries funding. Complete the Library Staff Certification Application to begin.
Once all required certification materials are received, the applicant can expect a response via email and their certificate and letter of certification to arrive via the United States Postal Service, typically within 3 weeks.
Beginning Workshop for Level 3 and Level 4 Applicants
Beginning Workshop is temporarily unavailable. We are moving this learning experience online to the Library of Michigan's Niche Staff Skills Academy. Look for it in 2022!
If your public library needs to meet a staff certification requirement for the director or support staff, we will offer a temporary waiver for the certification requirement. When the content becomes available, it will be the responsibility of individual staff members to complete the virtual coursework. The certification levels needed based on library class size can be found in the State Aid to Public Libraries Application Process
The Library of Michigan will make several announcements signaling the availability of the virtual Beginning Workshop Pathway to MichLib-L, direct communications to public library directors, and communications to cooperative directors.
Included in the state aid process issued Oct 1, 2011.
